Shannon Ryan, 17, of Ballston Lake, is one of 53 teens from across the county competing in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen (MAOTeen) competition, the “little sister” to Miss America pageant, Aug. 14-18 in Orlando, Fla.
Promoting scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement, MAOTeen teen contestants will be judged on personal interview, talent, evening wear, lifestyle and fitness in active wear, and an on-stage question. In the past seven years, the organization has made available more than $4 million in college scholarships.
Ryan, a senior honor student at Shenendehowa High School, is student council vice president and cheerleading captain. She will be performing an Irish Step dance for the talent portion of the MAOTeen competition and is encouraging young people to strive and reach their goals as her platform issue throughout her year of service.
