The Ballston Spa Central School District’s Partnership for Innovation in Education Fund was recently awarded a $1,000 grant from the Saratoga Casino Hotel Foundation to purchase graphing calculators for the students in the district’s Sponsor-A-Scholar (S-A-S) program. The money is distributed by the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors.
“We sincerely appreciate the funding provided by this grant from our county leaders,” said Cathy Roy, Ballston Spa High School guidance counselor and co-coordinator of the S-A-S program. “It is because of this type of community support that we are able to provide additional resources for the students in their educational endeavors and as they prepare for college.”
The program currently serves 35 to 50 needy students in grades 10 to 12 at the high school. It is designed to enable the students who demonstrate a commitment to their education to achieve academically with additional support and mentoring so they may reach their goals of graduating high school and pursuing a college education. The program continually seeks additional funding to support these neediest students by providing them with the tools crucial to their academic success and to ultimately break the cycle of poverty.
