An information session for the Adult Machine Tool Technology (AMTT) training program will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, at the Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES Southern Adirondack Education Center in the Multi-Purpose Room, Building D, Dix Avenue, Hudson Falls.
This intensive 500-hour training program addresses the current and anticipated need for machinists in specialty machine shops across the region as well as in companies engaged in advanced manufacturing. Local employers designed the program in collaboration with the Saratoga-Warren-Washington Workforce Development Board (WDB) and WSWHE BOCES.
Employers will be on hand to discuss what the work is like and what it takes to be a successful machinist. They will also share information about careers in machining, what the training involves and the outlook for employment and potential earnings in the region.
Representatives from the Saratoga-Warren-Washington Workforce Development Board (SWWWDB) will explain the application and interview process and provide information on the eligibility requirements to qualify for tuition assistance. Attendees will also have an opportunity to tour the training lab and see the types of equipment they will be using.
The Adult Machine Tool Technology training program is scheduled to begin Thursday, Oct. 12, and continue through early May 2018. Classes will take place Monday through Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. and Monday through Wednesday every other week in those weeks when classes are also held on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. All classes will be conducted at the Southern Adirondack Education Center.
Financial support for the AMTT is being provided by the SWWWDB, its affiliated One-Stop Career Centers and the Workforce Development Institute, a statewide organization dedicated to developing and supporting regional solutions to the challenges posed by workforce, economic and community development.
