Skidmore College has launched a multi-year fundraising campaign with a goal of raising $200 million by 2020. Creating Our Future—The Campaign for Skidmore is dedicated to the principles of creativity, opportunity and independence.
The campaign was launched during a gathering of nearly 400 Skidmore students, faculty, alumni and friends in New York City to honor members of the Presidents Society. Additional campaign events will be held around the country and on Skidmore’s Saratoga Springs campus beginning Spring 2018.
Skidmore President Philip A. Glotzbach announced that more than 19,000 donors have given $145,346,214 to the campaign since its “quiet phase” began in June 2013. The amount includes a record-breaking 28 commitments of $1 million or more.
“Our students are stronger than ever, going on to win prestigious fellowships, enroll in the finest graduate schools and secure career-building first jobs,” Glotzbach said. “Our faculty are celebrated for their pedagogy and research. We have transformed our curriculum and created exciting new academic programs and student-life initiatives. We have constructed award-winning residential and dining facilities and instituted environmental practices that have garnered national recognition for our commitment to sustainability. Now is the moment for Skidmore to embrace its great potential. Let’s seize this opportunity to create the best possible experience for our students and to develop them into productive global citizens. Together, we will create our future.”
A key priority of the campaign is the construction of the Center for Integrated Sciences (CIS), which will house 10 departments and programs in the physical and life sciences departments. The single largest academic initiative in Skidmore’s history, the CIS will establish a new model for science teaching and research. Its innovative design will foster collaboration across these and other disciplines at Skidmore, and transform how they’re researched and taught.
The CIS building will consist of 200,000 square feet of new and renovated space, 46 research labs, 16 classrooms and meeting rooms and 22 teaching labs, as well as an IdeaLab where students and faculty can exchange informal ideas and explore solutions to complex issues.
In addition to the CIS, the campaign will help Skidmore connect more students to paid internships, collaborative research, and experiential learning opportunities that prepare them for successful careers and life after graduation. The campaign will also support scholarships and financial aid, career development and experiential learning, the Tang Museum, athletics and the Skidmore Fund.
