The South Glens Falls Central School District board of education will appoint Dr. Jon G. Hunter to lead the school district as their interim superintendent at the next meeting of the board on Dec. 18.

Hunter’s service will begin on Jan. 1, 2018, and he will serve in the interim superintendent role until the new superintendent is appointed. The district will pay Hunter $500 per day. Hunter is a retiree, therefore the district is not obligated to offer health insurance nor required to contribute to the state retirement system on Hunter’s behalf.

Prior to retirement in January 2014, Hunter served as superintendent of schools for the Fairport Central School District in Rochester. Hunter also served as the superintendent of the Geneseo Central School District for six years and as the high school principal in the Bethlehem Central School District for 13 years. Since retirement, Hunter has continued to be active in education administration, including serving as interim superintendent at Lake George Central School district in 2016 and as interim deputy superintendent at Rochester City School district in 2017.

“The South Glens Falls Board of Education was quite impressed with all the candidates that we interviewed,” board President William Elder said. “However we felt that Dr. Hunter would be the best choice for providing our school district with the interim leadership that we were seeking. We are extremely pleased to welcome and look forward to working with Dr. Hunter.”

“I am looking forward to working with the South Glens Falls board of education, students, faculty, staff and parents,” Hunter said. “South Glens Falls is a strong district with outstanding educators and programs in literature, technology and an ongoing building renovation project. I am excited about making a professional and personal commitment to the South Glens Falls schools and community.”

Hunter lives Ballston Lake with his wife, Sabina.
