Saratoga Parents for Safer Schools, the group that wants the Saratoga Springs City School District Board of Education to arm grounds monitors, will host a Meet the Candidates event from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club, 301 Church St. Saratoga Springs.
“We are very excited about the response we have received for this event. It just goes to show you, how much the school security issue has galvanized our community,” said the group’s founder Kara Rosettie.
The group, which hopes to win three seats on the board in the May 21 election, was formed after the board voted in October 2018 to disarm grounds monitors because they were carrying weapons on campus in violation of state and federal law.
Since the vote to disarm, the Saratoga Parents for Safe Schools has been advocating for the reinstatement of the weapons on school grounds with a petition, attending board meetings to voice their concerns and lobbying city politicians to fund more school resources officers (who unlike the grounds monitors are fully trained in school safety). They are also backing three candidates who support their position on the school board.
They are Ed Cubanski, Dean Kolligian and Connie Woytowich.
