Connie Woytowich, who was running for Saratoga Springs City School district’s Board of Education, has rescinded her endorsement from Saratoga Parents for Safer Schools.

In a Facebook post, Woytowich said she will be running on her own because she does not condone comments the parents group, who is focused on rearming grounds monitors, made about current Board of Eduction member Heather Reynolds.

“I did not approve that message and I will not allow my name to be attached to such behavior,” Woytowich said in the post. “Make no mistake…..I am still running for the school board. By myself.”

While Woytowich does not point to anything specific that the parents group said about Reynolds, on March 26 the group posted on its Facebook page that “Heather, and the other 4 anti-school safety politicians on the school board put their personal politics ahead of our kids, the teachers and community.”

The following day, Woytowich, who is an 18-year teacher at Colonie Central High School, rejected the backing she once embraced.

A statement released by the group, which was founded by Kara Rosettie, said Saratoga Parents for Safer Schools wishes Woytowich well.

“As with any partnership, there are often times differences of opinion in regards to information dissemination.  Unfortunately, this was the case,” the statement read.

The parents group continues to endorse Ed Cubanski and Dean Kolligian.

In addition to those candidates, John Brueggemann and Natalya Lakhtakia are also seeking seats on the board. Reynolds, who has done research on school safety, is seeking re-election for another three-year term.

The school board vote is Tuesday, May 21.
