6481449_origParents and staff at the Greenfield Elementary School hope a gala fundraiser pushes them over the top of their $150,000 goal for a new playground, while the Maple Avenue Middle School Parent Teacher Student Organization will debut an electronic message sign in June.

The “Knights of Generous Hearts” fundraiser for a playground at Greenfield Elementary will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Villeroy, an 1863 estate located in town. A group has been working for two years to raise $150,000 for the new playground, which is expected to be built in October by parents and community members. So far, they’ve raised about $111,000.

The Villeroy event takes place on the lawn, veranda and inside the mansion. It will feature cuisine by Zest, live music by Jeff and Becky Walton, a silent auction and a barbecue cook-off by Adirondack Appliance. A $65 admission donation is requested and can be purchased online at www.greenfieldplayground.com.

“Our parents and school leaders are tireless in our commitment to this project,” said Tina Davis, principal of Greenfield Elementary. “We hope our hard work will help pave the way for other district schools who are finding themselves with similar needs.”

The Maple Avenue Middle School PTSO has saved for eight years for an electronic school sign. It will allow the middle school to promote items and events through programmable electronic messages.

Lisa Muller, PTSO president, and Jay McCarthy, PTSO secretary, finalized plans for the donation.
